Devnya Municipality is located at the North-East Bulgarian region and is part of the cluster municipalities included in Varna district. Northwest winds prevail in the municipality, but east winds also appear very often. There are cases of days with no wind and formation of radiation fog, for which air pollution plays a key role. Compared to neighboring cities, here the foggy days appear to be twice as much. Relatively more frequent droughts, especially during the summer and autumn days with light winds, contribute to the creation of conditions for ground inversion and increase in the concentration of air pollution.
Modern solution was implemented in Devnya Municipality to monitor the air quality’s 12 parameters in real-time in order to collect and store the data, which can be then used for statistical analyses. The Senstate UAQS device is a high class monitoring device which measures the relative parameters and sends data every minute to the cloud systems for further analysis and visualization of the data.
In addition to the air quality monitoring station, a monitor was installed in the Secondary School “Vasil Levski” where an interactive dashboard is presented during the whole day, showing the real-time data from Devnya Municipality and also interesting facts to engage with the children and adults’ attention, increasing their knowledge about the topic in an interactive way.
Citizens on Devnya Municipality can also see the collected data at all times through the interactive map for air quality, where they can track the quality of the air and see how it varies, or check the history data for the last 30 days.
