The municipality of Dupnitsa is a medium-sized municipality in southwestern Bulgaria with a population of 35,000 people.
The municipality has a highly pronounced industrial profile of the economy with a predominant sector of the processing industry accounting for 70% of the local economy. Although so far there are no indications of air quality parameters outside the norms, seasonal pollution is observed, mainly as a result of the use of traditional solid fuels for domestic heating.
In order to improve the visibility and engagement of citizens, the availability of current data on air quality and to support the set goals for green infrastructure as part of the just transition plan and the planned measures to reduce air pollution according to the plan for Integrated Development 2021- 2027, the Municipality of Dupnitsa implemented a decision by Senstate Technologies AD for permanent monitoring of the air quality.
The solution consists of two stations for permanent monitoring of air quality on the territory of the Dupnitsa Public Health and Welfare Institution, as well as in the residential district of Bistrica. The two devices are of the highest class and transmit data 24/7/365 for air quality parameters PM1, PM2.5, PM4.0, PM10, temperature, humidity, pressure and air quality index, and the device in Bistrica district is additionally equipped for gas pollution reading, reading with high precision the concentrations of CO, NO2, SO2 and O3 in the ambient air.
Thanks to the solution, citizens will be able to inform themselves through the online map, as well as thanks to an interactive component on the municipality’s website, and a specialized data analysis system will show real-time regulatory compliance under the Air Quality Directive 2008/50/EC .
