The municipality of Svishtov is located in the northernmost part of the Veliko Tarnovo region. The city’s specific plateau location, urbanization and industry lead to secondary air pollution. In addition, enterprises with a high risk of contamination with industrial sources of emissions of harmful substances operate on the territory of the municipality.
In order to carry out ongoing control, accumulate statistical data for the purpose of analysis and finding trends and dependencies and take timely measures, a real-time air quality measurement station was installed in the town of Svishtov. The modern equipment was financed under the program of the Environmental Protection Agency of the Ministry of Environment and Water and was installed in the “Nikolay Katranov” Secondary School. The air quality monitoring station monitors parameters in real time and sends data to a cloud system for subsequent analysis. The software allows tracking of compliance with European air quality regulations, as well as calculates the air quality index in real time, which provides recommendations for outdoor activities in case of elevated pollution values.
